Thursday December 25th: The Light of the world

The Nativity of the Lord

“The true Light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.”

John 1: 1-18

What a beautiful thought! This Light, this Word which was uttered from the lips of God and caused everything to be, became flesh to dwell among us!

When I reflect on this fact, I mean really stop and take it in, my heart wants to explode in awe and wonder. This light that could not be extinguished, though, is being ignored by us… the very ones He came to enlighten and redeem. “His own people did not accept Him.” Ah but we are assured that darkness has Not and Cannot overcome this Light.

Jesus is the true Light of the world. His light shines on us and, because of His grace, causes our faith to grow and blossom and bear fruit. From His fullness, we have all received grace in place of grace. Oh, what a Blessed Assurance!

Lord Jesus, may we truly experience Your Light. Not only in this Christmas season, but throughout the year. Come O Jesus. Come, speak Your Word over us and bring life out of our nothingness.

Glory to God in the highest. The Light of the World is here.
