On Friday, December 5, the St Therese RC Church, Valencia was filled with theatre, Christmas carols, Parang, and Soca Parang as the Cumaca RC Primary held its first Christmas concert titled ‘Be the Light’.
The evening’s proceedings began with a prayer said by Marion Patrong, Lay Minister, who blessed the event. Then the guest artistes: Falon and Mr Wong, Christi Amor Parang band, and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Parang Band graced the stage with well-received performances.
After the guest artistes, the true stars of the evening, the pupils of the Cumaca RC Primary, showcased their talent. The Standard Five children enacted a theatrical presentation which displayed how to be a light and follow Jesus Christ who is the Light of the World. The theatrical presentation was intermittently sprinkled with the magical voices of the pupils of other classes.
The performances of the students were remarkable. There was the spirited showmanship of the Standard Four pupils performing a rendition of Daisy Voisin’s ‘Alegria! Alegria!’ and Sharlene Boodram’s ‘Hooray For Santa’. The Standard Threes did an enchanting performance of ‘Hark the Herald’, and then the angelic renditions of ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ and ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’ by the Standard Twos.” There were also the captivating voices of the Standard Ones’ presentation of ‘Mary’s Boy Child’.
A pan solo was given by Antonio Ettiene, a Standard Four pupil. His presentation of ‘What Child is This’ enthralled the audience. However, the adorable performances of the First- and Second-Year infants with their respective presentations of ‘Away in A Manger’ and ‘This Little Light of Mine’ stole the show.
The concert ended with an exuberant whole school performance of Susan Maicoo’s ‘Trini Christmas’. The event was a truly magical experience and the message of being a light this Christmas was clearly rendered.
Congratulations to the Principal and staff of the Cumaca RC Primary School for your passion and dedication, for allowing your students’ talent to be displayed and for teaching the students to live up to the school’s motto: BE A LIGHT!
