How is Jesus coming to you this Christmas?
Matthew 1: 18 – 23
Like Mary, who was not yet married and pregnant, Jesus can come to us as a burden of tremendous responsibility. Mary could have been rejected by Joseph, (her husband-to-be), his family, her own family, and her community. With Mary’s faith, she believed and trusted in God’s promises: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel.”
Joseph demonstrates how Jesus can come to us. Joseph trusted God and believed in God’s plan for the birth of the Messiah. Joseph, a humble and God-fearing man showed “obedience of faith” in the divine message by taking Mary home as his wife.
When we anxiously face perplexing circumstances, let us remember that Jesus is waiting to be born in us. We pray to cooperate with the Lord in his desire to bring all people to Him. God has not left us alone; God is with us. May we be more fully aware of Jesus coming to us and so renew our faith, hope and trust in God’s redeeming work.
