“He said, ‘Yes, sir.’ but did not go.”
Matthew 21:28-32
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Today’s Gospel challenges us to be more intentional in how we live out our Christian faith. During this time of Advent, we are called to prepare our hearts, minds, families, and our homes to receive Jesus. To do so we must spend time in reflection, clean out the clutter in our lives by going to confession, avail ourselves of healing by choosing to be charitable and spending extra time in prayer.
We know these things, but we say “yes” and then never do what we know we need to do. We busy ourselves with secular preparation but never make room for Jesus.
This Advent let us truly make room for Jesus and truly prepare our lives to receive Him. At Christmas we celebrate the wonderful mystery of the Incarnation, where Divine and human unite.
Lord Jesus, you are the Incarnation. Help me to make room for you so that I can truly experience your divinity in my life. Amen.
