‘Let what you have said be done to me.’
Luke 1:26-38
There are times in our lives when we are faced with what we consider an impossible task. We are, however, doubtful and protest that what is being asked is impossible.
We are then informed that others have succeeded, and so can we. It may be success in a career, a sporting event, or a job opportunity. To us, it seems impossible, but then we are given examples of others who have succeeded in similar circumstances.
This is a situation similar to the one that the Virgin Mary encounters in today’s gospel. The angel Gabriel tells her that she has been chosen by God to bear a son. She is doubtful that this could happen, for she is a virgin, but is reassured by the words: “Nothing is impossible for God,” and she accepts.
Lord, give me the faith to accept the challenges that you put before me.
