“Lord, I am not worthy… but only speak the word.”
Matthew 8: 5 – 11
These days everybody talking about being independent, strong, and “handling yuh business.” And yes — taking care of yourself matters. Sometimes we take it too far. We’re not meant to carry everything alone.
The centurion in this Gospel reminds us of that. He wasn’t weak. He was a man of authority. Yet he approached Jesus with a humility we hardly see today. He trusted in a power he couldn’t see, and a word he couldn’t control.
In Trinidad, where the old village support is fading and plenty of us feel like we alone in this thing. Managing children, work, money, and everything else — it’s no wonder we’re tired. God never asked us to be superheroes.
This Gospel invites us to breathe, to let go a little, and trust that God’s authority is real. Faith isn’t giving up—it’s opening up.
Today I pray: Lord, teach me to trust Your word above my fear and my need to control.
Amen.
