God’s Kingdom is not distant; it is already budding within and among us.
Luke 21: 29 – 33
In today’s gospel, Jesus uses a simple image: the budding of the fig tree. When its leaves appear, we know that summer is near. In the same way, He tells us to read the signs of the times, to recognize when God is at work and when His Kingdom is drawing near.
Jesus’ words remind us to stay awake spiritually. The world is full of change and uncertainty, yet God’s Word remains constant: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” Amid shifting values and fading hopes, Christ’s promises endure.
We often look for signs of success, comfort, or control, but Jesus points us toward signs of faith, compassion, forgiveness, justice, and prayer. These are the true indicators that God’s reign is near.
Let us open our eyes and hearts to recognize His presence in daily life, in the goodness of others, in moments of grace, and in His unchanging Word. God’s Kingdom is not distant; it is already budding within and among us.
