GRENADA
As the Catholic community continues praying for the appointment of a new bishop, the process remains deliberate and unhurried, according to Bishop Clyde Harvey of St Georges-in-Grenada.
During a recent Good News Catholic Communications broadcast, the host invited viewers to pray “for the discernment of a new bishop” asking, “How is that moving though?”
Bishop Harvey responded “slowly….slowly. The Church never rushes unless there is a clear candidate,” he said. He noted that the Church often takes its time in discerning leadership, especially when clarity has not yet emerged.
Citing an example, he added that even prolonged delay can precede a sudden and definitive decision. “The Church never rushes and …like the more recent appointments, Dominica is a case in point. They were talking about and trying to discern who the new bishop should be and all kinds of delays. And then all of a sudden one day somebody just appeared on the horizon. Nobody knew anything about him. But it was clear that’s the choice. So, keep praying and we will see who God wants,” Bishop Harvey said.
The Bishop also marked a personal milestone that week. His birthday, November 9, a date, which, he noted, places him past the traditional retirement age of 75 for bishops.
“…which really makes him two years beyond retirement age for bishop,” the host said. “So, yes, I should have retired a long time ago,” Bishop Harvey commented.
