He longs for the members of his flock to turn back to him.
Luke 19: 41-44
Jesus stands before the people of Jerusalem offering true peace and they do not recognize it. Their spiritual blindness saddens Him. His tears reveal a love that grieves because of what their rejection will cost…destruction, sorrow, and lost opportunity for peace.
Today’s gospel calls us to look inward. How often do we, like Jerusalem, miss the quiet presence of God in our midst? Jesus foresees a time when the hardening of hearts to His voice and blindness to the goodness of God will result in ruin. He longs for the members of his flock to turn back to him.
May we remain spiritually awake to recognize the visitation of God in our lives whether through scripture, prayer, or the quiet movements of grace. May we allow our hearts to be opened so that when Christ draws near, He finds not resistance but readiness to receive His peace. Amen.
