From Archbishop’s Appeal
Over the last three weeks, we have shared stories of faith in action, from the opening of the Sea Lots Vocational School bringing opportunity to the most vulnerable, to the tireless efforts of our teachers, families and youth ministers who form hearts and minds across our Archdiocese.
Each story is a window into the living mission of the Church, one body, working together to serve, to uplift, and to bring Christ’s hope to those who need it most.
The work of the Church is vast, touching lives in ways both seen and unseen. It begins in our Catholic schools, where more than 100 institutions across the Archdiocese nurture children in faith and discipline.
Here, the Church sows the seeds of compassion and resilience in young hearts. Teachers encourage students not just to excel, but to care and to see Christ in their classmates.
It continues in the support given to families who are struggling. Through retreats, counselling, and community outreach, families are finding strength to rebuild trust, to heal after loss, and to face the pressures of modern life with faith. Parents speak of rediscovering peace in prayer, and children of finding safety in homes renewed by love.
The Church also walks closely with our youth and young adults stepping into a complex world where faith is often tested. Through campus ministries, mentorship programmes, and parish youth gatherings, they are being formed not only for success, but for service. They are learning that leadership begins with compassion, and true strength lies in living by the values of Christ.
In communities across Trinidad and Tobago, the Church continues to reach those most in need including the hungry, the homeless, the sick and the forgotten. Parish groups and volunteers, often working quietly and without recognition, provide meals, clothing, and comfort. Through the work of the Catholic Commission for Social Justice and other ministries, faith becomes action, transforming lives one small act at a time.
The Archbishop’s Appeal has been privileged to help sustain these ministries, supporting projects that restore dignity and create opportunities from youth retreats and teacher training to the repair of church buildings that stand as sanctuaries of hope. Every collection, every Deed of Covenant, every single contribution makes a tangible difference in the lives of others.
As Archbishop Jason Gordon reminds us through his homilies: “Our young people are searching for meaning and belonging. It is our duty as Church to walk with them, to guide them in faith, and to ensure that every generation discovers the love of Christ anew.”
This is the heart of our mission. It is what binds our commissions, our ministries, and our parishes into one body of faith. When we give, we strengthen the hands that heal, teach, feed and guide.
On Saturday, November 22 and Sunday 23, as we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, we invite every parishioner to give generously during the special collection in support of the Church’s mission.
Together, we can ensure that the light of faith continues to shine in our schools, in our homes, and in every heart that dares to hope.
