We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty
Luke 17:7-10
We live in an area with many trees, so we get many opportunities to see the many sacrifices birds make for their nestlings.
Indeed, the world over, mothers make tremendous sacrifices for their young ones, not expecting thanks. They do it out of love and duty.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that this attitude is a kingdom value. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to love and serve others without expecting thanks in return.
I have recently met members of the Missionaries of the Poor. They tell me their mission is to feed those who if they don’t will die. In many cases they literally feed them to their mouths because they cannot feed themselves, being so weak from hunger.
They live the kingdom value, they are doing service and duty out of love, not expecting thanks in return, from them.
