Are we really detached?
Luke 16:9-15
The question we need to ask ourselves from this gospel passage is: Are we really detached or in our hearts, do we love money, like the Pharisees? Jesus makes a distinction between money and ‘genuine riches’ – the genuine riches of forging relationships that would usher us into the kingdom of God, the genuine riches of entering into the tents of eternity, something that is our own possession, something that is ours to own.
We wonder if we too pass ourselves off as virtuous but, in our hearts, we are slaves to money. We wonder if what we are working for or ‘acquiring’ is really loathsome in the sight of God although thought highly of by man. Where is our real focus? Who do we want to be ‘trusted’ by – God or man?
Lord, I want you to trust me in small and great things. Grant me the grace to use all my resources, my time, my talents, my treasure in a way that builds up your kingdom. Lord, I know you know my heart.
