Christ calls us to use our gifts, our time, and even our worldly resources for eternal purposes.
Luke 16:1 – 8
In today’s gospel, Jesus tells the story of a dishonest steward who, when faced with dismissal, uses his cleverness to secure his future. At first glance, his actions seem questionable, he manipulates his master’s accounts to win favour with others. Yet, Jesus praises his shrewdness, not his dishonesty.
What does this mean for us? Jesus invites us to be as resourceful and wise in pursuing the Kingdom of God as the steward was in protecting his livelihood. Too often, we invest great energy and creativity in worldly matters, our careers, finances, or comfort, yet show far less zeal for spiritual growth, justice, and love.
Christ calls us to use our gifts, our time, and even our worldly resources for eternal purposes. We are stewards, not owners, of all we have. The question is: are we managing our lives with foresight for heaven? True wisdom lies in preparing for eternity with the same determination we give to our daily affairs. The lesson is, recognise when change is needed and embrace it.
