Davidia Sydney
I feel like the Lord has placed this specifically in my heart and told me to write. Like many Trinidadians, I have been hearing about the threat of a war and to be very honest, it is terrifying. I am scared.
I’ve been praying about this topic constantly. I know that I can’t do anything on my own. None of us can. The only person with the power to do anything is God. We have to call on Him.
In the middle of praying I felt like He specifically told me two things:
To be honest, I didn’t know much. I cannot quote the specific verses or the verse number to find them, so I looked it up. I looked up what the Bible said about not being afraid, verses that speak to the fact that God protects His people and verses about asking and receiving.
Here’s what I found: (If you’re like me and didn’t know, well now you do. If you study the Bible and know your verses, here’s a reminder)
Verses About Not Being Afraid
Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Psalm 23:4
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Psalm 27:1
“The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?”
Isaiah 35:4
“Say to those with fearful hearts, ‘Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.’”
Verses About God’s Protection
Psalm 91:1–2
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’
Psalm 46:1
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
Psalm 121:7–8
“The Lord will keep you from all harm, he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
2 Thessalonians 3:3
“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”
Proverbs 18:10
“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
Exodus 14:14
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Psalm 34:7
“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.”
Verses About Asking and Receiving
Matthew 7:7–8
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
John 14:13–14
“And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
James 1:5
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Mark 11:24
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
John 15:7
“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
1 John 5:14–15
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of him.”
I know that prayers are powerful. I know that He listens to us individually. I also know from Church, “For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.” There is multiplied strength and power in united prayers. So, although we are separated by distance and not physically in the same place, let’s put our fears, doubts and distractions aside and pray fervently. Let’s believe that what we ask together in faith, God will provide. Let’s pray not as individuals scattered across the country, but as one united people
