The Conference on Theology in the Caribbean Today (CTCT) has joined the Antilles Episcopal Conference (AEC) and the Archdiocese of Port of Spain in urging unity and peace across the region as the Caribbean faces multiple crises.
In an October 31 statement, the CTCT expressed solidarity with Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas, all reeling from the devastation of Hurricane Melissa, described as the “storm of the century”.
The organisation called on citizens to rally in support of those affected and warned of another looming threat—rising geopolitical tensions between Venezuela, the United States, and regional governments.
The CTCT urged Caribbean leaders to prioritise “sound decision-making, good relations, and peace,” reaffirming the 2014 CARICOM call for the Caribbean to remain a “zone of peace”, free from militarisation and foreign intervention.
“Peace and fraternity must never be sacrificed for political interests,” the statement said.
The CTCT ended calling on all people of faith and goodwill to “entrust the cause of the Caribbean to divine guidance and protection, believing that the ‘Lord hears the cry of the poor’ (Ps 34:7).”
