It turned out she was my friend that day
Luke 14:12 – 14
There is a country and western song called, “Having friends in low places.” That song comes to mind when I read today’s Gospel.
Janitors and kitchen staff should be our best friends.
I can attest to that. One morning I was late to breakfast. I walked into the cafeteria, to see the worker closing the door. I thought I was doomed.
Every foreign student knew that lady. She didn’t smile. She was accused of being a racist. She just was not friendly. She saw me, smiled and held the door open for me. She even asked me if I had studied all night? That was the first time I ever heard that woman speak!
The truth is I always greeted her when I entered the cafeteria. It didn’t matter that she never answered me. I saw her as a child of God. It turned out she was my friend that day.
