Surrender Series: The Healing Gift of Surrender in Friendship

In our journey of faith, surrender is often seen as letting go and trusting in God’s plan. When it comes to friendship, surrender means opening our hearts, letting go of expectations, and embracing the imperfections in ourselves and others. Just as Jesus showed unconditional love to His friends, even when they faltered, we too can cultivate friendships rooted in grace and acceptance.

And much like the reflection of friendship in John 15:13, I recently found myself between having to travel for an appointment, at a time of also being unwell and having to rely on a friend.

The entire experience made me pensive, as I had planned the trip way in advance and suffered a bad cold days before the actual date arrived.

I arrived to a warm welcome, fresh coconut water, a lovely lunchtime adventure, warm soup, a fantastic brownie and hear this……a new and soon-to-be-released project.

The healing experience of a caring friend didn’t stop there!

A tour deeply enveloped in nature, a delightful herbal blend to rub my back, a beautiful dinner of cassava coconut bread, tons of laughs and a sea bath before rush hour, all reminding me of laying down everything to heal and help a friend.

In this beautiful act of surrender, we found the beauty of genuine connection.

We might think of surrender in friendship as complex. It’s actually about being present, listening deeply, and appreciating the diversity of personalities that enrich our lives. Through surrender, we also express gratitude for the friends who stand by us, old and new, reflecting the love and compassion that defines our faith.

As we navigate the complexities of human relationships, let’s remember that surrender in friendship is a path to deeper understanding, compassion, and a reflection of Christ’s love.

Are you ready to surrender?
