Tuesday October 14th: The God who loves All of me

“You foolish people! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also? “

Luke 11: 37-41

Today’s Gospel calls the Pharisees and us to task, on how we judge things and people. Jesus wants us to move away from the “how it go look” culture, which focuses on image rather than on the internals. The thing is, we could fool people but not God.

I’m reminded of this when I smile at someone in church, though my heart still holds a grudge; when I sit looking attentive at Mass, but really zoning in on my grocery list for the supermarket where I’m heading  immediately afterwards; and when I confess the sins that don’t ‘sound too bad’ because I don’t want Father to know what I’m really struggling with.

However, this Word is also comforting when I am in the depths of my deepest sorrow or despair, or when I am having trouble accepting my physical appearance – God knows and loves us in our entirety, our weaknesses, and strengths – inside and out.

Lord, I offer all of me, mould me into a clean vessel of Your love. Amen
