“No sign will be given except the sign of Jonah”
Luke 11:29-32
I like signs and I am often searching for signs to interpret. I find myself saying, “Lord give me a sign that you will answer my prayers.”
A priest friend of mine is annoyed with my attraction to signs and verbally dismisses my interpretations.
So, I can relate to Jesus’ annoyance at the people of His generation seeking signs. He castigates them – here stands someone greater than Solomon and Jonah and still you refuse to have faith.
This is a lesson for me and others like me. We already have the greatest sign – Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection – these are enough. Now let us have faith, if only like a mustard seed.
