Friday October 3rd: Listening hearts

“Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me.”

Luke 10:13 –16

In today’s gospel, Jesus tells His disciples: “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me.” These words remind us that God’s voice reaches us not only through Scripture and prayer but through the people He places in our lives. And when we refuse to listen to them, the consequences are serious.

The consequence of such rejection is not only distance from God, but also a loss of the very gifts He longs to give us: peace, truth, and life. Without His guidance, we become vulnerable to the many misleading voices in the world, voices that promise happiness but leave us empty. When we close our hearts to His word, we end up trusting only ourselves, and our way. No matter how clever we are, we cannot satisfy our deepest longings or truest needs.

To reject God is not simply to turn away from a message; it is to turn away from the only One who gives our lives meaning and purpose.
