“Jesus resolutely took the road to Jerusalem.”
Luke 9:51-56
Deep, historical animosity existed between the Samaritans and the Jews; and anyone destined for Jerusalem was unwelcome.
Jesus resolutely took the road to Jerusalem. His disciples were tense, protective, concerned about Jesus’ safety. The Samaritans’ rejection added to their frustration and erupted in an aggressive response, which Jesus rebuked.
Following Jesus is always challenging. In face of hostility, He expects the faithful to respond, not in like manner, but with humility, non-violence, and forgiveness.
Scripture encourages us to navigate rejection; to consciously change our mindset. Embrace a more proactive reaction to life’s professional, personal, or spiritual experiences.
We imitate Christ when we navigate our path in steadfast faith, kindness, and compassion. Freeing ourselves from negative, emotive reactions to adversity, benefits all.
Favoured with the resulting peace and understanding, we naturally contribute to healing the world. We invest in love and mercy and never reciprocate with fire of hate.
