“In us the Word is made flesh
Among us the Word dwells
See His glory today
Full of grace and truth
He is revealed in you”
This descriptor is placed on the plaque of the mural, In Our Flesh, that was blessed at the carpark of the Church of the Incarnation, Maloney Gardens, on Monday, September 15. It is a present tense reading of verses from the Prologue of John and reflects the seed of an idea that was planted a few years ago in the parish and that has matured into this beautiful work.
After a great deal of discussion, brainstorming, stops and starts, the Holy Spirit allowed this vision for the piece to emerge. It is intentionally inclusive. High-rise buildings as well as the ‘wafters’ of Maloney are represented.
The three churches of the parish: Our Lady Seat of Wisdom, Mausica; The Lady of All Nations, D’Abadie; and the Mother Church in Maloney are centrally placed. A crowd representing people of differing colours and physical abilities is seen on its way.
Christ who is made flesh today shines forth in the diverse reality of our people as once He was made flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary, depicted with her overarching mantle of protection and in the flesh of a Caribbean woman.

We appreciate Courtney Hernandez, Mario Blades, and Nathan Thompson, for sharing their artistic talent. We thank Vicar General Fr Martin Sirju for his insightful words and encouraging presence.
Our gratitude extends as well to Kes Haile Selassie Julien of the Arouca Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church; Rev Deacon Marc Haynes of St Mary’s Tacarigua Anglican Church; Maria Douglas, Head of the Maloney Library; and members of the police force. Your presence and support are invaluable. – Fr Kwesi Alleyne, Parish Priest
