Jesus challenges us in this passage to see with new lenses: to look at the positives in our land.
Luke 7: 31-35
It has often been said, ‘you cannot please everybody.’ In the gospel reading for today the people are complaining; nothing seems to satisfy them; they are fault finders. This passage reminds me of ourselves as a nation. We are constantly bombarded with negativity; we are so critical and apt to judge and condemn and cast blame and beat up on ourselves, fretting that nothing works.
Jesus challenges us in this passage to see with new lenses: to look at the positives in our land. We are called to celebrate the good that we are. The wise way to live is not governed by rule and laws but by how we are kind and just and loving to all. This is the wisdom Jesus speaks of when he says, “Wisdom has been proved right by all her children.”
Lord, we pray for the gift of wisdom; guide us aright to use our imagination as we strive to be your disciples.
