Friday September 12th: Reflecting the heart of Christ

“Disciple is not superior to teacher; but fully trained disciple will be like teacher.”

Luke 6: 39 – 42

Jesus cautions against judging others while ignoring our own faults. He reminds us that a blind person cannot lead another blind person, true guidance begins with self-awareness. Humility allows us to see ourselves clearly before God, recognizing that we too are in need of mercy.

With humility comes understanding. When we admit our own struggles, we become slower to condemn and quicker to listen. We realize that others may be carrying burdens unseen, and that our role is not to shame, but to support.

Empathy flows from this understanding. When our hearts are softened by God’s love, we can approach others as companions on the same journey, not as critics standing above them. Instead of pointing out the “speck” in someone’s eye with pride, we gently help them see, mindful of the “plank” in our own.

Let us pray for the grace to lead with humility, to see with understanding, and to love with empathy, so that in guiding others, we reflect the heart of Christ.
