Saturday August 9th: Following without Faith

With Him Nothing is Impossible.

Matthew 17:14-20

At first, you may think that Jesus’ comment on the faithless and perverse generation was directed towards the man who came up to Jesus. It was not. The man showed great faith in Jesus. He went down on his knees, and he petitioned Jesus for the sake of his son who was harming himself. His actions showed that he believed Jesus could make a difference. He had even approached the disciples previously, but his son was not cured.

It was when the disciples came to Jesus and asked him why they could not cure the man’s son, that Jesus said to them ‘Because you have little faith.’  The ‘faithless and perverse generation’ Jesus was referring to, was those who follow Him and seem to do His work without true Faith in Jesus’ name.

Jesus was talking about you and me, who labour in His vineyard yet believe certain situations, people and even our society have no hope. Jesus is reminding us, disciples, that with Him nothing is impossible!
