“This is what I will do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones…”
Luke 12:13–21
Spending time with my grandbabies, ages 3 and 5, has renewed my sense of awe. Each morning, we run into the garden, arms lifted to the sky, joyfully shouting, “Good morning, beautiful world!” We thank the flowers, the trees for their oxygen, and even the tiny bugs doing their part in this delicate web of life.
Their innocence is sacred. They cry when they hear about the dodo birds. They instinctively understand the value of life, beauty, and connection.
This stands in stark contrast to the man in today’s Gospel — storing up grain in bigger barns, blind to the deeper meaning of life. Our world is hurting from greed, war, and destruction. But children remind us of another way — the little way.
To see again through the eyes of the innocent is to return to wonder, humility, and shared life. We are here not to hoard, but to love and care for this beautiful, fragile world.
