“He did not work many miracles there because of their lack of faith.”
Matthew 13: 54 – 58
In today’s Gospel, we hear how Jesus returns to His hometown and teaches in the synagogue. The people are astonished at His wisdom and miraculous powers but are not touched by them. Instead, they question His origins: “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?” Their familiarity blinds them, causing Jesus to not work many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
Faith is not just a passive belief; it is the door we open for God to act in our lives. Without faith, we limit what God can do, not because He is powerless, but because He respects our freedom. Faith invites God in; doubt keeps Him at a distance.
Miracles are not magic tricks, they are signs of God’s love and power, often revealed where hearts are open. When we trust in God, even in confusion or suffering, we create space for His grace to move.
The question today is: Are we inviting God into our lives through our faith or preventing Him by our lack of faith?
