Saturday July 26th: Eyes That See

Feast of Sts Joachim and Ann

“But blessed are your eyes because they see!”

Matthew 13: 16-17

Today, we celebrate the feast of Saints Joachim and Ann, the parents of our Blessed Mother. Two people who witnessed the genesis of mankind’s salvation before their very eyes.

I think of the Magi and shepherds in the Nativity story and all who have had a significant encounter with Jesus.

May we acknowledge the tremendous honor and privilege it is to be present in the celebration of the Mass, and also at Eucharistic Adoration, as we too encounter our King.

To see what eyes have longed to see and hear what ears have longed to hear.
O blessed indeed are our eyes and ears as we look past the physical and see the amazing visions before us, in the spirit.

Visions of the Majesty of God, as we ourselves join all the hosts of heaven in praising and extolling Him.

Open our eyes, O God, to this glimpse of what prophets and upright people of old, have longed to see. Amen.
