Surrender Series: Through Surrender, Your Path Will Find You

Nicole Joseph-Chin

I remember the days when I didn’t truly know or understand what surrender was, the value it held or how it could be used in a meaningful way.

Yet, even in those instances, I was practising surrender, not identifying it as a ‘thing’ and not understanding that it had a power all its own—with the most beautiful benefits.

Did we even understand how to identify the act and call to surrender at varied stages? Especially at the start of the process? It is also remarkable how, with the many meanderings, turns and experiences in our lives—the blessings and the challenges, all have a subtle song of surrender playing in the background. The questions often are: ‘are we listening? What are we hearing? And how are we going to be in tune?’.

It is also very reassuring to appreciate that our paths are already ordained and in the times that we are in our deepest moments of surrender, our deeper purpose can be revealed.

Can you identify or recall a moment when you might have vaguely spoken of something at an earlier time in life and, later on and with more certainty and clarity of expression, there was a deeper conviction of the desire, dream or mission, to the point of it being made manifest in front of your eyes?

Bigger questions—do we ever think that this is of our own doing? Do we ever think that maybe, it is because of our brilliance or knowledge? Or do we attribute these moments of revelation and purpose to the love of God for us, His intentional and divine timing and our deepening of relationship with God?

We might also be reminded in Psalm 119:105 whenever we are faced with such uncertainties, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” But do you know the enormity of value that surrender holds when we believe that our paths are already lit and prepared by God?

Do you know what comfort comes with understanding that God already had our paths mapped out and when we discover and practice deep surrender, it will find and follow us? Do we still feel the need to be doubtful or afraid? Or are we ready to surrender?

In this Jubilee Year and as Pilgrims of Hope, we have so much in store for us and all we have to do is to trust in Him and let His will be done!
Are you ready to surrender?
