In my imagination: This “need of only one thing”.
Luke 10:38-42
I get so vex, eh. So, I am anxious and worried about many things! There’s need of only one thing! Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken from her! Steups! Doesn’t he know that it is my DUTY to feed him and his friends?
Three deep breaths later, I asked myself: What IS this one thing there’s need of? From inside me came: “You shall have no other gods before me.” …Was I replacing God with idols of duty and worry? …I was.
With that insight, something inside me changed. The many things to worry and be anxious about remained. However, my focus and purpose shifted.
I smiled at Mary. Both our faces gleamed. In the midst of the worrisome and demanding food preparation, I too found THE ONE THING NECESSARY.
Daddy God, grow your love in me please. Help me to put You first in everything. May both my activities and my contemplation be rooted in humility, love, and the desire to serve You.
