“It will not be you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.”
Matthew 10: 16 – 23
In today’s gospel, Jesus sends His disciples out “like sheep among wolves.” He forewarns them of trials, persecution, betrayal, and rejection. And yet, amid these hostilities, He offers a surprising advice: “Do not worry about how to speak or what to say.”
Why? Because in those moments, “It will not be you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” What an assurance! It reminds us that our mission as Christians does not depend on perfect words or eloquence, but on our openness to the Holy Spirit.
We often hesitate to speak about our faith, fearing we are not wise enough, articulate enough, or holy enough. But Jesus is telling us: Do not be afraid. When we trust Him, He will give us what we need.
Our task is not to be clever; it is to be faithful. Speak with love, live with courage, and trust that God will work through our words, however simple they may be. He is with us.
