You mean a whole lot to Jesus.
Matthew 10: 1-7
Although this Gospel passage involves all twelve disciples, it is Jesus who is front and centre. He had a special commissioning in mind for his twelve disciples. He summoned them, gave them authority, gave them power, sent them out, instructed them not to do certain things, instructed them to go, and instructed them to proclaim that the kingdom of heaven was close at hand.
The interesting thing about this passage is that each disciple is named and differentiated. What is the significance of that? Although Jesus may ‘summon’ us together with others, perhaps in ministry, on the job or in the family, to Jesus, we are individuals. To Him we bear our own name. We are special in His sight and set apart from any other person.
Individually you mean a whole lot to Jesus. He summons you today and gives you authority and power. He sends you out into your circle of influence and even beyond and gives you special instructions – all geared towards bringing about the kingdom of heaven. Believe that!
