With the blessing of Cathedral Administrator Fr Martin Sirju, the Cathedral Jubilee Committee organised a special Jubilee Celebration among the primary schools in the parish. These included Bethlehem Boys’ and Girls’, Nelson Street Boys’ and Girls’, and Sacred Heart Boys’ and Girls’. Each school was invited to creatively explore what it means to be a Pilgrim of Hope.
Frs Sirju, Emmanuel Dafe and Peter Aduaka VC visited the schools to witness what they had done. Students crafted candle holders and mobiles, wrote stories, sang songs, danced, played musical instruments, created paintings and posters—all centred on the Jubilee theme.
The celebration culminated in a special Mass on Thursday, June 26 at the Cathedral. In place of the homily, Fr Sirju invited each school to present two items. The presentations were impressive, featuring a dance, a comic book on being a Jubilee pilgrim, and a song.
It was fantastic to see the children express their understanding of being Pilgrims of Hope so creatively. The final Mass was wonderful. To all the talented students: may you aspire to bring hope to those around you for the rest of your lives. Sincere thanks to the Jubilee Committee, principals and staff of the schools and thanks be to God. —Story and photos by Alvin Peters, Cathedral Jubilee Committee
