Monday July 7th: Faith and Compassion – A Healing Touch in Our Lives

“Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.”

Matthew 9:18-26

In today’s Gospel we see the powerful intertwining of faith and compassion through the stories of Jairus and the woman suffering from hemorrhages. Both figures demonstrate profound desperation coupled with unwavering faith. Jairus, a leader, humbles himself before Jesus, pleading for his dying daughter, while the woman reaches out in hope, believing that just touching Jesus’ cloak can heal her.

In our modern world, we often grapple with our struggles—health issues, family crises, or personal losses. Like Jairus and the woman, we sometimes feel lost and seek help in places that may not provide the comfort we need. This passage reminds us that vulnerability and faith can lead to healing.

Additionally, it encourages us to be compassionate, recognising the struggles of those around us. In a society that often emphasises self-sufficiency, we are called to reach out for help and be there for others, demonstrating love and solidarity in our shared humanity. We can find hope and healing through faith for ourselves and our communities.
