Saturday July 5th: Recognising the work of renewal

A rigid mindset makes us spiritually blind.

Matthew 9:14-17

Why do we have to do this, and your followers do not? In other words, what makes you special and above the law?

This question posed to Jesus about fasting speaks to me about a rigid mindset. Jesus came to fulfil the centuries-old longing for the Messiah, yet they failed to recognize Him or His works.

The work of the Holy Spirit is frustrated in a rigid heart, for the Spirit blows where He wills. Perhaps, we too are unable to recognize the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in the Church because, like the Jews, we are only able to see through our own lens and not through God’s.

Let go! The Holy Spirit cries! Let go of your own ideologies, of trying to fit our infinite God into a finite box.

Lord, grant us a willing spirit to recognize and yield to the work of renewal that You are doing before our very eyes. Amen
