Wednesday July 2nd: An Encounter with Jesus

“They pleaded with Him to leave their region.”

Matthew 8: 28-34

An encounter with Jesus never leaves anyone the same. Today’s reading demonstrates the outcome may not always be fully positive, as it ought to be.

In the first instance the two demon-possessed men recognized who Jesus was and pleaded to be released into the herd of swines. I am told that is why some persons do not eat pig meat.

The pigs’ encounter was to rush down the hill and die. Those tending the pigs rushed into the town and reported all that had happened. The town people came and “they pleaded with Him to leave the region.” Why would they have done that?

My dear friends which one of the above can we identify with as our response to an encounter with Jesus? Perhaps, more than one. Whatever is our conclusion, we have the opportunity to embrace and welcome Him. We should know that God is love and Jesus His Son, our brother has paid the ultimate price on our behalf, death on the cross.

Let us therefore seek an encounter with Him that will only have positive results.
