Have you ever had an outright Holy Spirit encounter that was steeped in surrender?
It wasn’t until I had looked back, more than a decade later, that I understood what surrender was doing in my life.
From all accounts, I had been calling surrender by a different name for a very long time, all whilst allowing it to work for me, on me and through me.
Then one day, during the depths of my journey, and with a very important decision to be made, I allowed surrender to do the work, one beautiful Wednesday morning.
The distinct voice of the Holy Spirit assured me that everything would be alright and that I could go ahead with my BIG decision.
While apprehension might have been the usual approach on a regular day, this day felt divine, holy and administered by the power of the Holy Spirit and so, I was calmer than I had ever been about anything—and in true surrender fashion, I let go and let God!
There were a few things that allowed me to feel so very confident about everything and one of them is my unwavering faith.
More than that, what the Holy Spirit also ministered to me on that morning was as clear as any message had ever been; it was well-articulated and in no uncertain terms.
And as in Acts 5:32: “We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”
Like a Christmas present or a new gadget that comes with batteries and instructions, this very profound moment of surrender came with a blueprint from the Holy Spirit that included distinct and specific times, dates and days.
Now, it is important to understand that obedience and surrender are a dynamic duo. When one is both obedient and ready to surrender, the rest unfolds and works in God’s perfect orchestration.
The other very important ingredient that supports surrender and acts like a sweetener of sorts, is TRUST. In the depths of this very delicate decision, I decided that if I had already believed in the power of the Holy Spirit, all I had to do was to take it to the next level and apply trust.
And so, after that very important experience in surrendering, with my ultimate trust and in obedience, everything happened just as I had been ministered to on that beautiful Wednesday morning.
And since that day, like in Acts 5:32, I have embraced surrender like a beautiful companion that never fails. Are you ready to surrender?
