On Friday, June 27, the United Nations hosted its annual event to commemorate Micro-, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) Day. This observance, established by a United Nations resolution in 2017, honours the crucial role that MSMEs play in global development.
Representing over 90 per cent of businesses and generating 60–70 per cent of jobs, MSMEs also account for approximately half of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Events and foras held around the globe focus on the challenges and opportunities faced by these enterprises, bringing together policymakers, entrepreneurs, and financial experts to discuss strategies for their support, especially in times of crisis.
In today’s world, technology is crucial for enabling businesses to run smoothly and efficiently. To increase productivity, it is essential to explore various technological options and assess how they can contribute to a company’s success.
By choosing and using the right tools, companies can see much better outcomes. Technology is changing nearly every aspect of our lives and the way we conduct business, and it’s particularly significant for small businesses and startups. By adopting new digital tools and innovations, these businesses can overcome long-standing challenges, reach a broader customer base, and operate more efficiently while adapting to a rapidly changing environment.

Let us begin by discussing a crucial topic: cybersecurity. In today’s world, where we are all connected through technology, it is essential for everyone, not just businesses, to know how to keep their personal information safe and ensure their online services run smoothly. We will explore some simple ways to protect our critical data and ensure that everything functions as intended.
Get ready to dive into the world of cybersecurity as we begin our exploration of WhatsApp, a popular messaging application (app) that helps us stay connected.
WhatsApp: a quick overview
WhatsApp is a mobile messaging app that allows you to send messages without the high costs associated with regular text messaging. It was launched in 2009 and will enable you to send text messages, make voice and video calls, and share photos and documents.
Since it connects to your mobile phone number, you can easily talk to people, no matter where they are in the world. In 2014, Facebook (now called Meta) bought WhatsApp. This app has become essential for millions of people because it makes staying in touch instant and straightforward.
WhatsApp quickly gained popularity, and by early 2016, it had reached one billion users. Over the years, the app has added numerous features, including group chats, which have transformed the way people communicate with each other.
Initially, the messages sent through WhatsApp were not very secure; however, the app now employs robust security measures to protect users’ privacy, ensuring that only the intended recipients of a conversation can view the shared content.
Key features and capabilities
WhatsApp offers a range of convenient features that enable people to communicate and stay connected with ease.
Group Chats: This feature enables users to have conversations and share content with up to 256 people simultaneously. Group chats facilitate the building and maintenance of online communities, bringing people together to connect and support one another.
Broadcast Lists: Users can create separate lists of people they want to send messages to, so they don’t have to select each person every time they wish to send a group message. This makes it easier and faster to share messages with multiple people.
Multimedia Sharing: The app enables users to share various types of media, including voice messages, text, pictures, animated images (GIFs), and short videos. This makes it easier for people to communicate and understand each other better.
Quoted Turns: This feature allows users to select specific messages and reply to them directly. When you do this, the original message appears as a quote. This helps keep conversations organised and makes it clearer what you are responding to.
Accessibility: WhatsApp is an app that can be easily used on smartphones with both Android and iOS operating systems, as well as on computers through web browsers. To start using it, create an account using your phone. Since it is free and user-friendly, WhatsApp has become a popular tool for learning and connecting with people worldwide.
