Tuesday June 3rd: Jesus prays for His disciples and us

“They may be one as we are one”

John 17:1-11

We are told that God so loved the world that He sent His only son to die and thereby redeem mankind so that eternal life can be experienced. Jesus glorified the Father by finishing the work He was given. He was returning to the Father but was conscious that He was leaving His followers behind. Therefore, He asked the Father that “they may be one as we are one.” This is not easy to accomplish, but must be on going. The Holy Father Leo X1V has signaled the need for a united church. Thus, following this theme of Jesus, Synodality started by Pope Francis must continue to guide all Christians.

Jesus prayed for the disciples, seeking protection, as He does for us. We are aware of the challenges we face in the world and need always to rely on His Grace to see us through. We must play our part in continually loving one another not merely in words but in action. Let us continue to pray that the Spirit of the Trinity stays with us as we seek to be one.
