Reunion Week for SJC POS Class of 1975-77

The St Joseph’s Convent Port of Spain (SJC POS) Class of 1975 recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Fifth Form graduation from the school, in a joint celebration with the Sixth Form graduating class of 1977.

A total of 61 alumnae participated in a series of ‘fun-raising’ events from May 13-18, including 13 who travelled from the Bahamas, Barbados, Canada, United Kingdom and United States to attend.

The week-long celebrations included tours of President’s House; limes at The Arboretum (Chaguaramas) and Gasparee Island; a nutrition seminar facilitated by Susan Daniel RN; a Dance-a-Roke Night (Karaoke with Waist!), a photoshoot at the school and a potluck gathering in Cascade.

The week culminated in the school’s Annual Reunion Mass, celebrated by Archbishop Charles Jason Gordon, followed by a luncheon at CIC Hall.

Planning for the reunion commenced in June 2024, with a Kick-off Tea at the School’s Abercrombie Tea House, following which a Planning Committee set to work on mobilising 130 alumnae to attend and/or donate to the ‘Class of 1975-77 Fifty at 50 Years’ projects.

The Planning Committee included Christine David-Lewis, Wynnell De Landro-Robinson, Anne-Marie James, Beverly Jardine, Joanna Landreth-Smith, Marleen Lord-Lewis, Willys Marshall, Suzanne Moore, Margaret Nakhid-Chatoor, Catherine Shepherd (Chair), Beverly Smart, Beverly Wharton-Lake, Carol Williams-Mitchell and Ayles-Anne Wilson (advisory).

The SJC POS Class of 1975-77 chose two priority projects to support: replacement of guttering across the school, and installation of an emergency staircase in the Exam Block. So far, this year’s Golden Anniversary alumnae have raised the sum of $141,500, or 47 per cent of the desired target set by the Past Pupils Association’s Fifty at 50 Years Golden Anniversary [fundraising] Project. Fundraising continues until December 2025.

66 Candles

In the garden of years, where memories bloom,

Sixty-six candles light up the room,

Each flickering flame, a story retold.

Of laughter and heartache…. Let the whispers unfold.

A sisterhood forged in the fire of years,

Faced sorrow and silence, and times of despair.

Yet we’ve come through with laughter, and with prayerful tears.

Our bonds ever strengthened—unwavering, rare.

A tapestry woven with threads of pure light,

In the hues of our journey, both shadow and bright.

From the cradle of dreams to the threshold of dawn,

Our sisterhood’s legacy forever lives on.

So, here’s to the laughter, the loves we have known,

To the seeds we have planted, where gardens have grown.

As SJC sisters, we muse and remember,

The years spent together, the joy-filled Septembers.

Let’s raise a glass to the moments, the passions that flow,

To the stories to write, to the magic that glows.

For 66 years, we’ve danced through the skies.

The world is much better…There’s still light in our eyes.

To the 66 candles, each held in our hands,

A sisterhood eternal. TOGETHER WE STAND!
