Friday May 23rd: Selfless, Sacrificial and Unconditional

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”

John 15:12-17

Jesus not only instructs us to love but sets the standard, as I have loved you. His love is selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional, culminating in His willingness to lay down His life for us. As He declares, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

Easter is the triumph of Jesus’ sacrificial love over sin and death. Through His victory, Jesus transforms our relationship with Him from servants to friends: “No longer do I call you servants… but I have called you friends.”

Our friendship with Christ is not based on our merit but on His grace. He chose us, as He affirms: “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit.”

We bear fruit though our love for others. The command to “love one another” is not a mere suggestion but a mandate that reflects our relationship with Christ.
