Revitalising your work-faith experience

Business people, meeting and planning for strategy, brainstorming or schedule in the boardroom. Gro.

When discussions began on the God@Work supplement, we knew we wanted something transformative and beneficial to our readers in their professions.

We at Catholic Media Services Ltd (Camsel) operate in a Catholic setting, but the typical issues and challenges can still emerge when you have a team with different personalities. Our work is essentially for God and all the people we touch in our various capacities and platforms. We are unified by faith, although on different personal journeys.

The question emerged: what happens to the Catholic who is in a very different work environment—where there may be intense and seemingly irreconcilable clashes of personality, where faith systems are diverse, where aspects of the job may not align with personal values?

Often, it is difficult to translate the practice of faith into a secular career or work environment, and this was a need we sought to fill.

We also wanted to help shape and enhance skill-sets, soft or otherwise, and give information in each supplement to as wide a demographic as possible.

So, the supplement took shape: interviews with individuals who practise their faith in day-to-day lives, from the farmer in Paramin to a renowned chef; experts who lent their advice in the ‘how-to’ centrespread of the supplement; and space for both young and established businesses. In other words, a holistic approach to the working individual in each supplement.

The inaugural God@Work Business Conference was a quiet vision we had—a more interpersonal God@Work experience for Catholics at work.

With our Business Manager Camille Ramdial-Cumberbatch at the fore, and a small team, we sought out high-cadre individuals to speak not only on faith but also present practical and valuable information for a changing environment.

What makes this first business conference even more meaningful is that it is being hosted in the Church’s Jubilee Year 2025—a year specially dedicated to renewal, hope, and the deepening of our Christian witness.

Hosting a business conference in such a year underscores the recognition that sanctity is not confined to sacristies, but extends to boardrooms, classrooms, and every professional space. It is a powerful reminder that the workplace too can be holy ground.

The conference, themed Fuelled by Faith and Hope: Fired Up for Success, aims to equip individuals with both spiritual insight and practical tools for thriving in modern, often high-pressure work environments. But its value does not stop with Catholics alone. The content shared is universally relevant. Whether one is Christian, of another faith, or of no religious affiliation, the insights into managing stress, fostering emotional intelligence, navigating ethical dilemmas, and embracing technological shifts are useful and timely.

The presenters bring a wealth of knowledge from diverse fields—culinary arts, journalism, digital enterprise, corporate management, and academia.

By blending faith with professional development, the God@Work Business Conference bridges a vital gap. It encourages reflection on how belief systems shape communication, and especially integrity in the workplace.

We hope that this inaugural conference will be the first of many. It is our prayer that it will strengthen Catholic professionals to live out their faith with courage and wisdom, while also providing a forum for broader conversations about purpose, excellence, and the kind of society we are building through our work.

As Psalm 90:17 says, “May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands.”

This conference is our offering—an invitation to see work not just as a burden or a necessity, but as a calling.
