“Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid”
John 14:27-31
“Tell aching mankind to snuggle close to my merciful heart and I will fill it with peace.” These are the words of our Lord Jesus to Saint Faustina, the apostle of Divine Mercy; comforting words to be sure. There is no doubt that people are crying out for peace – peace of heart and mind, peace in our families, peace in the world.
As Catholic Christians, we believe that there will be no true peace without God for it is a gift that he gives. “My own peace I give to you,” he says in today’s Gospel. Think about that for a moment. We are offered the divine calm of the man who walked on water, slept through storms, fed 5000 with five loaves and two fish and much more. He knew the Source of his peace, and he offers it to us.
Let us pray for the gift of that peace that passes understanding, for ourselves, our family, our friends and indeed, for the whole world.
