Saturday May 17th: Love, Hope and Empowerment

“…whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these…”

John 14:7-14

Today’s Gospel gives us a deep message of love, hope and empowerment. Jesus reveals a powerful truth to His disciples – knowing God is knowing Jesus, knowing Jesus is knowing God. To know someone is to be deeply intimate with them, to love them with all the heart. It is the oneness of Jesus and the Father, the centrality of our Christian faith.

This is facilitated by God through His Holy Spirit. Jesus invites his disciples and us to faith, hope, and love which are the foundations for genuine discipleship, to actively participate in His divine work, “whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these…” Jesus, in an act of empowerment, as great leaders do, challenges us to step beyond our limitations which often confines us, “and to engage in acts that reflect divine love and power.”

We are empowered through a deep relationship with God, in Jesus, to mirror His love and compassion; to align our heart with God’s will and witness how it transforms our life and the lives of others around us.
