“In a little while you will no longer see me, and then a little while later you will see me again.”
John 13:16-20
What is this ‘little while’? In today’s Gospel there is confusion about what Jesus means by ‘little while’. Our God is a formative God that walks with us on a pilgrim’s journey, a journey to grow our faith, that is, our relationship with Him. Each day we should be closer and more intimate with our Lord. This can only be so when we nurture trust in God.
Jesus is nurturing trust in His disciples here. He is telling them that though challenging times lie ahead, trust in Him. He will take them through and all will be well in the end.
We too experience trying times. Let us hold on to Jesus through the Eucharist and Sacred Scripture trusting that He will sustain us and bring us through. Treat these times as formative times where we will grow in virtues so we can live intimately with our God.
Let us pray. Lord Jesus may your sacred words become flesh in me so that I can grow in trust in you and so live, move, and have my being in you. Amen
