Monday May 12th: An open invitation

‘I am the gate for the sheep’

John 10:1-10

We have a small gate at the front of our home, and we always keep it closed. Since the gate is no more than four feet high, someone can easily jump over the gate. However, persons visiting will call out and we open the gate.

In today’s Gospel passage, Jesus calls Himself the gate. ‘Whoever enters through me will be saved,’ He says. He opens Himself to us, offering a life of grace, truth, and communion with God. He is not a gate that shuts out, but one that invites in all who call out to Him.

Let us today come to the gate of God. Let us call out to Jesus, trusting that He hears us and will open to us. Just as we recognize the voices of those we love and welcome them into our homes, so too Jesus recognizes our voice and welcomes us into His care.

In a world filled with closed gates, Jesus stands as the open gate—offering not only protection and peace but the fullness of life.
