Friday May 9th: United Forever

Jesus says, “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day.”

John 6:52-59

The Jews struggled to understand Jesus’ words. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked. His teaching was shocking and offensive. Yet, Jesus did not soften His words, He emphasized them: “My flesh is real food, and my blood is real drink.”

If others struggle to believe, the faith community does not. We know Jesus is the Living Bread. His body, once broken, is now glorified. His blood, once poured out, now speaks of redemption.

In the Eucharist, we celebrate our relationship with Jesus, since whoever eats His flesh and drinks His blood remains in Him, and He in us. This is the heart of Easter: Christ has made a way for us to be united with Him forever. He is the bread that makes us never hunger again. He is the blood that makes us never thirst again. We welcome and receive Jesus.
