“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
John 6:30-35
In our beautiful twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago, we indulge in our culinary treasures, from freshly made bread—warm and buttery—to delicious doubles and rotis stuffed with a mix of proteins and vegetable chokas. These hearty meals remind us of the deeper sustenance offered in today’s Gospel reading. When the crowds sought a sign from Jesus, he pointed not to earthly bread but to the true Bread of Life—Himself.
As we gather around doubles stalls or backyard limes, sharing laughter and stories over our favourite dishes, we are called to gather around Christ, the living bread. Amid the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, let us not forget where our true nourishment lies. As we depend on the sun and rain for our bountiful crops, we must look to Jesus to satisfy our deepest thirst for meaning and love.
As we savour the flavours of our home, may we also embrace the divine sweetness of Jesus, who assures us that we will never hunger or thirst again in Him.
