Monday May 5th: The Eternal Banquet

“It is the Sprit that gives life, the flesh has nothing to offer”

John 6:22-29

The crowds hunted Jesus, not because He offered life, but their carnality made them insatiable.

The flesh, that is, carnal and worldly appetite, is a bottomless pit. Greed and Gluttony quickly make their home. Soon a feast is held and there enters (if left unchecked) their five companions: pride, anger, lust, sloth, and envy.

Weighed down by these deadly sins, the soul wanders through life constantly seeking to fill the void, never at rest.

We are no different to these maddening crowds of long ago; our distractions have become more sophisticated, but our sensual desires remain the same.

It is through faith in Jesus, in unity with the Father and Holy Spirit, that the soul is invited to feast at the supper of the Lamb, at the banquet set by the Father. Come!

Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Permit me not to be separated from You. Amen.
