At Easter, we celebrate that Jesus did not come merely to satisfy temporary needs, He came to offer eternal life.
John 6: 1 – 15
In today’s passage we meet Jesus facing a hungry crowd. They hungered, not just for bread, but for hope, for healing, for something greater than what this world could offer. Their physical hunger mirrored their deeper spiritual hunger.
Isn’t this the human condition? We hunger for meaning, for peace, for redemption. The brokenness of the world leaves us longing for something more, something only Jesus can provide.
Neither Philip nor Andrew could see how they could feed such a crowd. Two hundred denarii would not be enough, and the five loaves and two fish are hardly enough among so many. The enormity of the challenge makes it seem impossible for their human capacity.
But Jesus takes the loaves, gives thanks, and distributes them. And not only does everyone eat; there are twelve baskets left over. God is the God of abundance. He is also the God who satisfies. At Easter, we celebrate that Jesus did not come merely to satisfy temporary needs, He came to offer eternal life.
